Scrub – Game jam (Godot Wild jam #78)





This is the second game jam in which we take part. The first one was in 2024.
“Scrub” was a blast to work on! We did learn from our previous mistakes, choosing a more realistic scope for the project and working towards complexity and not starting with it.
The jam theme was “Erase” and the three wildcards were :
- Mimic : Something is not what it seems (erase me start button)
- Style Shift : Visuals switch between two art styles (graffiti)
- Shopaholic : Include some kind of shopping mechanism (broom “store”)
Our game ended being about a loser who erase graffiti for a living. They took this job to pay their rent despite thinking that graffiti shouldn’t necessarily be erased. The game features a timer (your jerk boss wants quick work), you gain seconds every time you “clean” a graffiti. What’s your best score? (Mine is 55)
This concept was simple enough to be light on the programming side (at least lighter than our previous attempt Monster Laboratory) and allowed us to have fun with the different graffiti, trying our best to incorporate the style shift into the artworks. FG46 managed to show the urgency of the work with his great music theme.
The team was made up of : Ska (Programming), FG46 (Music), Ari and I (Art).
For the artworks, we each designed a background, one or two brooms and a bunch of graffiti. Ari designed the UI (user interface) buttons, soap gauge and soap particles. I drew the broom “shop”, the splash screen (loading) and all the visuals for the itch.io page (background, banner, thumbnail…)
